	Donations of Publicly-Traded Securities If you wish to make a donation to your favourite charity, and do not have the cash, consider donating any publicly traded securities which you may own. You will be better off, if you donate the securities directly to the charity, instead of selling the securities, and donating the cash. This rule has been extended, under proposed rules, to donations to private foundations made after March 19, 2007. If you donate a security directly, the difference between the fair market value of the security and you cost, are not taxable. Publicly-traded securities include share, debt or right listed on prescribed stock exchanges, share or unit of mutual fund corporation or trust, and an interest in a related segregated fund trust. The rule does not apply to donations of other types of investments such as limited partnership units, income trusts and non-listed classes of shares of public corporations.
